News! 24 March 2003
Hi everybody and WELCOME TO THE NEW SITE!
Well, have a look around the newly designed and totally updated site! Lots updated,
and I hope you will agree, the new design is a lot better than the last one
was! If you want to have a quick look at the old site design, then click here.
The new site also has a few more additions. New pictures! New Wallpaper! Javascript
is used a lot more now - e.g. important announcements are now at the top of
most pages. All the psychology source info is now contained in archive.
An obvious point, but still worth mentioning - if you don't know who Derren is or what he does, then watch his shows which are currently airing on Friday nights Channel 4 10.35pm.
We are all updating our DB sites! - Derren's official site has taken on a new look in the last few weeks. Derren's Channel 4 website has been updated with new stuff now. Have a look! There is talk of a new db fan site popping up... the site is likely to be found here or here. Also, you will also notice Derren has included a new caricature of himself on his official site. Very nice! (look on the derrenbrown.co.uk for a better quality version):
In other news, Derren has been mentioned in an online article for the Independent:
"...And these messages get into the bloodstream fast, as was brilliantly
demonstrated by Channel 4 itself in a programme from a series called Derren
Brown: Mind Control. Brown took two advertising men in a taxi to a venue and
asked them to come up with a billboard advert for a taxidermist business. A
large stuffed bear and small cat were placed in front of them, as was a sealed
envelope containing Brown's own prototype for a poster. The two gents were shocked
to find they came up with an almost identical poster.
Brown explained that he had taken the two along roads where certain images either
existed or had been placed so as to be observed by them subliminally. For instance,
a gang of children wearing sweat shirts with a particular logo were made to
cross a pedestrian crossing in front of their car. The logo, a little altered,
appeared in the advert they made."
You can find the full article here. hugo_hadlow from Yahoo Groups found that
one.
My good friend Ria has found Derren mentioned in an article on science.net
which heavily features our well-known mind controller:
"Whats even more impressive about Derren Brown is that being open
about his methods and not making any claims to posses supernatural powers does
not diminish his performances. Rather, his refined use of the signals that we
all use unconsciously makes his feats of mind control even more intriguing and
infuriating - not least because you know you should be able to work out how
he does it."
Ria runs a fantastic Derren sister-site and it is well worth joining her Derren
newsletter list. Visit her site here.
After a chat with users in Yahoo Groups in February, mjm710 has been kind enough to type out some of the chat. The transcript has been added to the archive and can be found here.
Maybe not directly Derren related, but still an interesting link sent in by
Ashley Simmons: "a site created by James "The Amazing" Randi,
a retired illusionist who now runs a sceptic based site dedicated to unmasking
charlatan cold-readers, bogus faith-healers, useless perpetual motion machines
etc. Randi has offered a one million dollar prize to anyone who can demonstrate
any proof of any paranormal activities whatsoever. No one has yet collected.
It's a pretty interesting read and contains several interesting pieces about
all sorts of stuff including cold-reading techniques and illusions etc."

Derren has done a "60 second" interview for the Metro newspaper. Thanks
to skunc for finding that. Derren has also done an interview for the Sunday
Telegraph. There is also an article on Derren in the "Evening Standard"
newspaper. Magicweek have also published their interview with Derren.
Derren has taken part in an interview for the BBC which you can listen to using
realplayer.
The users of Derren Brown Yahoo groups have been busy (especially Sang!). If you are a member, remember to look at the files section which includes clips from Derren on Radio 1, and some scans of Derren in different magazines.
Whilst surfing the net, I came across a page which has used the info my biography page! Fantastic! I'm just pleased that some of you find this site useful!
Well, as Ria reminds me, Derren started his tour in Stevenage on Friday. If you have seen the show or are going to see it, please send in what you thought of it!!
See you later and enjoy the site.
